Ms. Orellana is ecstatic to join the wonderful RISE Kohyang family as the new 7th and 8th grade math instructor! She discovered her love for math as a Van Nuys High School Math and Science Magnet student. Ms. Orellana was one of the top five in her high school’s graduating class and was determined to share her passion for math and education with the community. In 2007 she received a B.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Life Science, a Preliminary Multiple Subject Credential, and graduated Cum Laude from Cal State Northridge (CSUN). She received a M.S. in Education with specialization in Instructional Leadership and a Clear Multiple Subject Credential from Mount Saint Mary’s College in 2012.
Ms. Orellana’s teaching experience began in 2007 in a self-contained 5th grade classroom. During her first year, she had the pleasure of mentoring at-risk middle school students and developed an interest in teaching pre-adolescents. She went on to teach 7th grade Pre-Algebra and Life Science for five years followed by one year of 6th grade Math and Earth Science at a campus with similar demographics as RISE Kohyang.
Her goals include: inspiring students to rise to their full potential, empowering students and helping them understand how they can be catalysts for change in their community, and providing an education tailored to meet each scholar's needs.
